cant figure out UBR

hi,

im trying to figure out my UBR, i followed the haynes tutorial but the website does not show the relevent information or am i missing it?

can someone just confirm my reading if my UBR is 3 for example i should be looking for MACs with the UBR of 2 or 1?

I've found it doesnt matter what UBR your on as long as you search a different area. I would recommend only going 1 up or one down though. In your case UBR2 or UBR4.

I'm not sure what that is, but if you are on Sly, your barking up the wrong tree. Sly is ADSL/BT and not Cable.

Go to : http://tools.virginmedia.com/

Where it says Client Host Name should be a long string similar to this:

cpc*-yyyy10-0-0-xxxxxxx.xxxx.cable.ntl.com

The CPC is the card your are on in the UBR, the next section yyyy10 is your UBR. Number could be anything, not just 10.

(IP Address).cable.ubr01.(Area).blueyonder.co.uk

ie - 82.82.164.164.cable.ubr02.live.blueyonder.co.uk

This denotes a Liverpool UBR on the Telewest/Blueyonder part of the network.

ow wait wont work if im on my sky line, i ordered my modem and just waiting to plug it in but im guessing i wont be able to see this information unless i put a valid MAC in which then brings me round to the first problem.

Have you just switched to VM for your BB? You need a Broadband connection to your home from VM in order to investigate your UBR.

umm no dont have a virgin broadband connection, how specfic is the UBR, specific to your road, town i guess i can just find out from someone else. Would putting any MAC in allow me to get online and check my UBR? as long as the MAC is not from my UBR area?

Just ask a friend within the same area to you to check the ubr your will also be the same. .. You defo need a mac from a different ubr to get online ... www.mac-share.co.uk
