    Default Alarm System

I'm moving in a few weeks and want to get a decent alarm system.

    Requirements:
    Keyfob arm/disarm
    Wireless (no running of cables)
    Internet connected (email/notification of events).

Future proofing (desired but not essenitial):
Ability to add cameras to remotely view/take a mugshot of any intruder.

    Any recommendations?

Cheers guys. I really don't want wires running around the house though. It'll look terrible. What's so bad with the wireless systems?

You can get some decent insurance approved alarms... But... They cost...

    Like these - http://www.visonic.com/products

My mum has the Visonic Powermax. A good alarm.

I, though, have installed 2 Yale alarms. Cheap... And gets a lot of shit from alarm installers. But... I have never had an issue with the 2 I installed.

    Thanks to Geko

Haven't had any false alarms on any of the 3 alarms that I have installed. Not 1. They have been in for 10 years. And 2 of them are shitty Yale alarms.

As stated before the Visonic is insurance approved. One of only 2 wireless alarms to be insurance approved, when I picked the solution. Downside - It cost over 1K for parts alone. But.... It has about 50 sensors on it.

My nan has a wired one. Wired in by age concern. She has had it for 6 years. She has had 2 false alarms in that time.

I'm not saying that wired alarms aren't better. I am aware that they are. I am just communicating my experiences. I considered wiring in an alarm in my new place, it wouldn't be much hassle. But the Yale had behaved so well at my last place, I bought another.

    Thanks to Geko

Wireless are fine go for Powermax or Texecom Enforcer, the only problems you'll get are the battries need changing in the wireless devices every couple of years.

Think the Texecom menu is easier to follow for a diy job.

I like the hard wired Texecom Veritas R8. I have 2 of these, 1 in my house, and the other as a seperate system, on my Garcade.
They are quite popular in commercial properties as well.

    Thanks to tronads

In the end I cheaped out and bought a Yale. Managed to get it for £176 with a 30% off code.

All my network is hardwired. Except for the tablet, phone and laptop. 4 ports in every room.

The Visonic Powermax is the one I installed at my parents.
