    Default OBD Device

This kind of links to the sticky in digital mile correction but just received one of these:

    https://www.kickstarter.com/projects...to-vehicle-obd

Only had a quick play with it but bang for buck (didn't get stung for import so was about £45) it seems like a nice bit of kit. I believe they're available for general purchase now.

What's new about this? I've had a cheap Chinese device from eBay for about 4 years. . .

I've got a Bluetooth one which cost about £6 iirc. Works a treat but I think i'd buy a wifi one next time. I'm told they are a bit more responsive.

The only difference between this and the cheap ebay versions is bluetooth on the ebay versions and wifi on this one.

My issue is I have a VW Golf Mk5 which uses a different protocol for the bus so doesn't work with the cheapies and I can only find a cable to fit it. I'd love to have a tablet set up on my dash showing me the live data in Torque or a similar app.

What software are you using? Is there anything freely obtainable that has the same depth as vag.com?

Torque seems to be the software of choice on Android.

I've had another look and some are saying they support the ISO9141 format my car communicates in. For £6 I'll take a gamble.

Torque is great and dash command is nice too. I think dash command is available on iPhone also.

I would have to look at a wiring diagram to make sure 100%, but I'm pretty sure the Mk5 Golf will need support for CAN as well as K and L Lines (ISO 9141).

Yeah tbh I googled around and couldn't find anyone who had success getting the Bluetooth adaptors working on a mk5 golf. For £6 I thought I'd take the chance.

I have the small blue elm bluetooth one

    I have a 57 plate Mk5 TDI (105hp)

I use torque pro on a S4 android running kitkat

For the money, id get vag.com I have one and its great, much more info and functionality than the torque app.
