Console Rivalry - SNES vs Genesis/Megadrive

He gives the Genesis the point for styling of the console. Against the NTSC USA version of the SNES I agree, against the European/Japanese version..... debatable (But I would probably still go for the Genesis).

I love the SNES, I do actually prefer the styling but I did say in the thread I might sway towards the Megadrive so I will vote for it

I had the Mega PC back in the day (386 PC mixed with an integrated MegaDrive) but prefered the games on the SNES.

In terms of appearance Megadrive for me tho.

My issue is this.

Snes - Key Figure, Mario - Objective, to rescue the princess from the monster, in this case Bowser. This has a nice story, it shows Mario loves the princess and princess does not see looks over midget fatness. All kids can play the game and hope they will have a princess like them

Megadrive - Key Figure, Sonic, Objective to get all the rings and defeat the monster, Dr Robotnik who wants your ring!!

I am worried about big fat guys interested in the young gamers ring!

I think my case is a strong one.

Styling was not an issue, as with Mario and Princess, looks do not matter, its what inside and we won't concentrate on your ring!

For me Street Fighter 2 decides it.

On the SNES the controller let it down. On the Megadrive the graphics were not as good.

From being a spectrum gamer, I was used to graphics being substandard, but the gameplay trumped the rivals.

So, Megadrive wins.

SFII Was supreme on the Snes, it was much easier due to the control pad to pull of Ken and Ryu's Fireballs and Uppercut moves! That aside, if you were passionate, you would have got two of these - Super Advantage Arcade Sticks

Looking at Googles data of sales of the megadrive by area, I cannot see any concentration of hubs, what area do you speak of.

I'm will have to fall on the SNES side on this one. Better all round game selection, only really falling down on ahooters

Never owned a Nintendo console, but I did have a Megadrive. I still remember when I put Sonic on for the first time greeted by that audio "SEEEEGAAA". Loved EA Sports NHL games on it.

Side by side, scrolling was a bit flakier (that a word?) on the SNES. But SNES had better colour.

Sega had form from the arcades. Nintendo had nothing but game and watch...

I only owned a Megadrive and loved it to bits but always felt the SNES was the better console.

4 player Micro-Machines and Pete Sampras with friends was always amazing for a 10 year old too!

I remember the Christmas I got my Megadrive, remember unless you had an independent games shop or parents that would buy you an import one for silly money from a magazine, you had to wait nearly 2 years for the SNES!

On the build up to the Christmas I was asking relatives for money rather than gifts and I had a huge pile of games ready for Christmas day.
Think I went out and bought the following games, the console came with Sonic and Altered Beast if I remember rightly:

Buster Douglas Boxing
Streets of Rage
Golden Axe
and a few others!

I used to love the carts with the joypad ports and also the EA carts as they had the yellow tab that I always though was some funky chip.
