    Default Better Call Saul

AMC Releases Details and First-Look Photo for Better Call Saul

AMC today provided the first of several planned updates on the Breaking Bad prequel Better Call Saul, including the release of a first-look photo from the Albuquerque, New Mexico set where the widely-anticipated drama began production on its first 10-episode season earlier this month.
    This update includes:

    • Breaking Bad creator and showrunner Vince Gilligan is directing the Better Call Saul series premiere, and co-showrunning along with fellow Breaking Bad alum Peter Gould, creator of the Saul Goodman character.
    • AMC confirmed it has already ordered a second season of 13 Better Call Saul episodes, for an initial total of 23.
    • The network also announced a change of the series schedule, with Better Call Saul premieres slated for early 2015 and early 2016, respectively. Specific dates will follow, but the show will join The Walking Dead and Talking Dead, two of television’s top-rated hits, on AMC in the first quarter of each of the next two years.
    • The first-look photo (above) shows Gilligan and Gould from the set, with star Bob Odenkirk (Saul Goodman).

“Production on Better Call Saul is underway, and we could not be more proud of, nor more excited about, the work to date. We join the fans in eager anticipation for this series, and today we happily confirm that our initial Saul order is for two seasons and a total of 23 episodes,” said AMC president Charlie Collier. “When introducing any series, especially one with the DNA of Breaking Bad, there are countless factors to consider in making sure the show gets the launch it deserves. We have a strong history with Vince, Peter, Bob, the studio, and so many involved with this production; we are enjoying the process on Saul and all share a focus on making it a true television event. No half measures.”
In addition to Gilligan and Gould, several Breaking Bad writers have returned to work on Saul, including Thomas Schnauz and Gennifer Hutchison. Bradley Paul has also joined the writing team, along with Gordon Smith, who was a writers’ assistant on Breaking Bad.
Better Call Saul is executive produced by Gilligan, Gould, Mark Johnson (Breaking Bad, Diner, Rain Man) and Melissa Bernstein (Breaking Bad, Rectify, Halt and Catch Fire) with Breaking Bad alums Stewart A. Lyons and Schnauz as co-executive producers for Sony Pictures Television.

I'm really looking forward to this.

It's being pitched as more of a comedy than Breaking Bad, so if you're expecting Breaking Bad 2 then you might be disappointed.

Well, if you look at it like that then where there only two main characters?
As far as I recall, Saul played a big enough part and was as much a main character as say, Skylar, Marie, Lydia, Mike etc.
Non-main characters IMO would be the other detectives, Skinny Pete, Badger, Ted etc - in it fairly often but more or less supporting characters.
Nah, Saul was definitiely a main character.

we all know breaking bad was mainly about Jessie and walter - I know Saul helped them out of scrapes but that's about it.
How they pulled him out of the show and then gave him a spin off is beyond me.

Ill wait for new epsiodes of Breaking bad as I know they coming as walter never died

Saul played a big enough part for me to look forward to it, only watched BB from the back end of last year, but did enjoy it

I read theres a chance of a return of BB, as Walter wasnt pronounced dead, it cut off, would ruin it though and id rather they went with better call saul, if it flops it flops

If there had to be a spin-off, who better for it to be about.
Everyone else is either dead or hasn't the potential!

I thought Saul was a great character. I don't see why he couldn't support a series on his own.

I think its the best option for a spin off, and I'm glad its going to be more comedy based as it will stop it from being compared to Breaking Bad. I would love to see more of Gus though and I am sure they could do his history.

Just watched t he pilot. I'm guessing the opening scene was set 'now', I guess just to answer what happened to him after breaking bad finale (and probably a similar situation to Jesse).

The pilot was a little dull, got alot more interesting in those last 15 minutes but otherwise... it wasn't entertaining. Just made me feel really sorry for Sauls dire situation.

    Spoiler:
Not sure why they have brought Tuco in as a cameo, it kind of gives me the feeling the whole series will be pish now.

If it were a stand-alone pilot I wouldn't have watched any more episodes, but as a BB fan I'll give it a chance.

Wasn't impressed, not sure what the critics were watching when they said the pilot looked like it could be better than BB.

    Spoiler:
I imagine it will be full of cameos and they will be intertwining it too with BB timeline

    Next episode out already.

I watched two earlier and enjoyed it again - this is just setting the scene for what turned him into Saul.

I read somewhere they have picked it up already for a second series, so as it's set five or six years before BB I guess there's a limit on how far they can take it anyway really.

It's better than most stuff on TV these days, and it seems quite cinematic too in the way they film it.
