Default HTC Desire Z hands-on

    http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/15/h...re-z-hands-on/

You should see how fast this thing boots up!

We've just gotten to grips with HTC's luscious new Desire Z slider (you'll know it as the T-Mobile G2 in the US) and it is indeed a slab of finely crafted metal. That Z hinge that the company is touting feels pretty robust, requiring a reassuring amount of torque to get it to spring open. And it really is a spring, it flips from closed to open instantaneously. The QWERTY button array feels pretty terrific, giving us just the right amount of responsiveness, while separation between keys feels a lot more spacious than the images would lead you to believe. It's also worth noting that, exactly as HTC promised in its keynote, the Desire Z has one of the most accessible top rows in the slider smartphone business. We honestly didn't think there was a difference between typing on it versus any of the other rows. That's quite the feat, and easily positions this as the best competitor to Nokia's newly announced E7. Are we witnessing a QWERTY renaissance? We sure hope so. Check out the gallery below and hands-on video after the break.

That boot time is when it goes into a hibernate mode, not a full cold boot.

    Apparently under 10 seconds though.

Shame that. I thought it was from off as the bloke says in the video "that's the boot up time", bit misleading.

When earlier we published video of Android downloads per second, we have assumed: such technology can be applied in only specific smartphones. And then, just three months later, it became a reality – on HTC Desire Z and HTC Desire HD which support function of HTC Fast Boot.

Objectivity is demonstrated beyond doubt. Previous Android-loaded smartphones about a minute, and the latest novelties are ready to give the owner of nearly all the functionality within five seconds after pressing the button. Impressive speed, is not it?
But there is a caveat – the basis for HTC Fast Boot is a technology, similar to Hibernate mode on a PC which stores information in memory, which is known to be volatile. That is, if you fully discharge the battery or get the battery will be possible only the traditional load duration of about a minute. But in other cases the device is ready to work for a few seconds, even faster than the flagship of Apple.
