    PS3 YLOD FIX ?

Anyone know a more permanent YLOD fix as i've heard the repair kits can often fail again.
I've got a 3.41 machine here so it would be a shame to have to bin it because of this shitty YLOD.

    Cheers

Have the board reworked is the best solution but very expensive.

Ideally just post the metal cradle containing motherboard and fan(cheaper postage) to:
    The PC Hub
    90-92 North Road
    Clowne, Derbyshire
    S43 4PF

I will of course repaste the CPU and GPU using Arctic MX-2 so please don't unscrew them when you get them back as it will mess up the paste.
    Cheers

What was the outcome for this? Did you get L33ONP's Mobo Ruggie? Has it lasted?

    Obvious reason I ask!
Probably going to Reflow one this afternoon...!

I didn't end up sending it.
I opened it up to send the board off only to realise it had already been repaired, and badly.
Most of the heat pads were missing and they was thermal paste all over the place.
Then I couldn't take it back to gamestation because I'd removed the warranty sicker so I ended up stripping it down and putting most of it on ebay

I repaired my Ps3 recently, gave it a blast with the heat gun and then applied some AS5.

It worked for about a week but now has the YLOD again.

Whats the best course of action:-

    1) Strip it down again and give it another blast with the heat gun?
    2) Strip it down, remove the AS5 and apply more AS5 than I did last time?
    3) Strip it down and replace the heat pads, one of them had split?
    4) All of the above?

    I'd go with number 4.
It will fix it again but it will also fail again at some point all depends on how well you reflow it and how much use it gets. It might work for a week or it might work for a a few year but the only permanent fix is reball the CPU and GPU with leaded solder

Thanks for the advice, I'll give it another blast, literally!

Out of curiosity, whats the recommended amount of time to blast it with the heatgun for? When I did it previously I blasted it for 3 minutes on about 350C [I think thats what the temp was].

Dont go overkill with the AS5. It can got the other way.

Thin slither almost see through will make a big difference.
