Still open for suggestions ^^
so putting the http:// worked then?
It can be the router. If you've password protected the router then you may have changed the other settings. why are you waiting for a new password?
The only way to get to the router settings is with the password if you don't have this, as mentioned earlier, do a factory reset of the router. ie press the reset switch on the back.

Thats the wireless standard. Turn it over and read the real model number. Should be something like: WL-117

Ahaa... WL-160
so?
go here, download the manual then...RTFM.
It should give you the default settings to get into the router.

edit: user name and password are admin and admin.
admin/admin doesnt work
go to page 8 of the manual and start from there.1) If problems occur with your router, press the router’s reset button with a pencil tip (for less than 4 seconds) and the router will re-boot itself, keeping your original configurations.
2) If problems persist or you experience extreme problems or you forgot your password, press the reset button for longer than 4 seconds and the router will reset itself to the factory default settings (warning: your original configurations will be replaced with the factory default settings)

Looks like hes only doing step 1....
Hopefully he knows his ISP password & username, because if he doesn`t he`ll struggle to get connected if he does a hard reset back to default.
If all else fails.
Disconnect the router and power supply.
Put it all in the box that it came in.
Take it back to the shop you('re friend) bought it from.
Tell them you're too stupid to set up a wireless router
